I was called to a new built home on saturday . The young couple wanted 10 wood venetian and 2 romans . In their hands were all the samples from web blinds ! My quote for the whole lot was £1167 , but agreed they could buy cheaper on line !
Given all the wood troubles and potential DORs i readily provided all the measurements , and agreed i will fit for £200 (cash) . Hope web blinds enjoy the order and the customer can do all the complaining .

We had 13 blinds for the same customer arrive, some the old wooden, and some the new wooden....again same room option. Also DOR'd a new wooden, and the DOR arrived in the old wood

Are wooden venetian blinds
made to measure
or
ready made - made to measure.
Ready made - made to measure, is a term use for curtains etc which are all ready made and then shortened to the customers size. This is what is happening with the wooden venetian blinds. ls it wrong for them to be sold as a made to measure item.
The quality of the DORs that l have fitted does seem to be improving, so that is a good sign.

I've been chasing overdue wood Venetians, and been told there is such a big backlog that service support have been told not to chase Washington, and some blinds are already being rescheduled for 2006.
I'm doing even more than usual to dissuade customers from buying them, but any who do, I emphasizing no guarantee on fitting before Christmas.
No doubt customers will be given a discount to compensate, further reducing our earnings

I thought the problems had gone away this morning when I fit one that looked good.
It only had holes on one side for the controls, it even worked ok !!!
But then I did one this afternoon - holes in both ends, crappy cord - DOR'ed again

I'm having loads of DOR's on new wooden venetians. At least one warped louvre per blind & the top louvre bends when you close them every time. The 'under buttons' often fall out or are missing too!! I have just taken £3000 order of woodens & I'm 'creaming' myself that every one is a potential DOR. I am likely to stop selling these as I did a few years ago with Romans!!!! Once again we see Hillarys making cuts to the detriment to the company, us & the customers!

:(Fitted 3 35mm in a bay today and can see exactly why everyone is complaining. Ordered with 'same room option' but slats not in line and blinds did not even all have same number of slats Other faults: Scratched slats Poor end finishes Ineffective tilt mechanism Different length valances for same (exact) length blinds. Customer had ordered them to replace existing cheaper blinds but now wishes he hadn't bothered. Just hoping the DORs are OK but not holding my breath!

You should forget about same room option.
Wood ven. are now bought in ready made, Hillarys just cut down the sides, take out surplus slats and fit cord lock & tilts.

Shock!! Horror!!
Had a wooden venetian to fit yesterday, --It was packed ok, none of the screw-fixings had come adrift in the box, two decent brackets supplied--4x central support brackets supplied!!! blind 196cm wide 101 drop!! Valance ok FULL SIZE 4x Velcros attached, everything fine. Then I fitted brackets and slotted in the blind..oh dear. No way was it going to drop. Took it down, virtually took mechanism apart on the bed, and there is no way the present cords will slip through the adjusters.
Whatever happened to our testing department, They feature on the videos? Another DOR then--am I supposed to test fly these blinds before I go on site--I'm beginning to think so it might take time but would save mileage...
Its not rocket science folks, all it is is repacking Chinese blinds... I am going to give flogging woodens a rest now until February and will restart when I see the good reports on here about them. I would not trust a word my FSM says.
No Nails
Nonails

This is the best action you can take at the moment. I for one tell customers that Woodens are currently not available but can offer Aluwood instead or other aluminiums with mixed slats which goes down well. With aluwood the same price as Wood there is no loss of income. Have got the last of the current batch to fit on orders of £1600 & £3000 ..... I'll let you know the outcome .... or maybe you can guess!!!!!!

like the idea pesto. No woods for me till next year. Everyone I have done in recently has been dor'd. Just not worth it anymore, bit like the whole job really. Years ago I used to really enjoy it but now it is just a chore.

l always try and talk the customer out of Wooden Venetians. l tell them they are CR*P so best not to buy yet. Lady customer still ordered. She ordered £1000 worth of blinds including 4 wooden venetians.
She is prepared for dor's
