i remember the time when discounts were the BUZZ word at HO. Then we were told that working smarter was the way forward. Hillarys didn't want to be the cheapest in the market but the best. how times change. working smarter still seems right to me. i don't like working harder for less money. will the board be working 20 or 30% harder/longer or reducing their salaries by 20 or 30% ? ;D ;D

we have no competition in this area. yes. no competition. Hillarys is the only advert in my local papers. why then are we advertising 3 for £99?

As I said with the last offer Hillarys have a good brand and lots of recommendations from customers (well done advisors !!!) so why are we cheapening ourselves going for the low end of the market ? The message it give me is that the company is not confident about our quality and service and feel we can only compete on price (funny I thought I was told no reason to give discounts). This does not bode well. One sales call (plus percentage of time spent on no sale calls) plus fitting 3 blinds plus travel must equal 3 hrs. OK lets say 2 hrs to be generous that's £7.26 per hour less costs which means we are probably working for £6 per hour max with no guarantee of work, no holiday, sickness entitlement etc. Not looking good to me, is it about time to consider a move

Have also just recieved notification that 3 - 99 is to be extended, but now they are including venetian blinds in the offer for one week.
This offer was supposed to bring in more leads to give us the opportunity to sell up.So where are all these extra leads Melissa? They certainly not appearing in this area. We are also told not to offer any discounts on these offers, but I have customers who have discount vouchers that state "On top of current offers". We are the ones who take the flack from the customers and get threatened with the OFT for misrepresetation.
I have to agree with Golfsthegame that these offers are taking us into rundown areas where people just cant afford more than the offer price and just will not spend any more

In reply to the advisor who asked ''Is this promo being used to put as many small local blind companies out of business (as possible)''
I sincerely hope so....then we can get back to doing sensible business !
And while we're on this subject, would Mellisa please answer the question, posed a number of times on this forum, about what to do when faced with a discount voucher ('a la' direct mail) against one of these offers.

I will be glad when this 3 for £99 joke finishes. Of the 5 leads I had today, 3 customers asked about the offer, and when shown the fabrics expressed their dislike of them. When asked if they would be interested in a superior ( ??) fabric at 3 for £149 (Clouds) said thanks but no thanks, we cant afford any more. I am finding that the potential customers who are ringing in for this offer fall into the following catagories, 1) Pensioners on basic pension 2) Poorly paid on limited income 3) People on the dole but even these people have their pride and will not buy any old fabric just because it's cheap. If I had the range of fabrics that Joy has for the offer I could sell loads, but who wants to at the rate of commission they bring in ____________________________________________ Reply from [glow=red,2,300]JOY[/glow] Put me in catagory 2!! lol

Three venetian blinds for just £ 99.00 - great offer (for the customer) but we are exhorted to use the leads generated as a springboard to sell up the range.
OK, understood, but sell up to what ? At least with the Vertical promotion it was offering a sub-standard specification - tired old discontinued fabrics, silver headrails, unappealing colours, etc - so we could try to sell up to better fabrics and white headrails.
With the new venetian promotion the blinds are standard specification and the only direction in which to sway the customer is to a different colour at a grossly higher price. The promotion states maximum 1.2 metres wide but does not specify a maximum drop so the customer could buy three blinds at 120 x 400, which would normally cost £ 216.00 each according to my price list. A more typical size of 120 x 150 would normally be £ 114.00 each so, even on 25% discount, would be £ 256.00 for three, compared to 3 for £ 99.00. I can see no way that we can talk customers up from this promotion, and I bet the Harvest and Ash Grey will sell like the proverbial hot cakes.
The same argument applies to Rollers. The maximum 120 x 150 would normally cost £ 80.00 each but we are offering 3 for £ 99.00. Acacia is the most popular Roller fabric anyway, so what do we sell up to ? Its certainly not going to be easy to justify an increase of 250% over the promotional price just to have a bigger choice of colours.
This is simply 'pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap' marketing with little prospect of achieving premium upgrades because the jump is too great a difference. Fine if it was supply only, but they take just as long to fit.

Have we all got the 3 for £99 venetian and roller offer now? Perhaps Mellisa or our FSM'S would like to come out with us and show us how to sell UP from this. If their window is over 1.2m they only have to pay an extra £15! (Wow...another £2.20 for us!!) So that's ANY size window for £48 each!! AND LESS THAN THAT WITH THEIR VOUCHERS!! HOW MUCH STAFF DISCOUNT DO WE GET IF WE HAVE THEM? I MIGHT JUST SELL TO MYSELF. Half the price of B&Q and my hubbie has to fit them before I pay! lol Harvest will do. Funny.......I only have green and pink left for customers already!! [glow=red,2,300]I[/glow][glow=red,2,300] WILL NOT SELL ,(PROBABLY DOR), and GUARANTEE for 12 months 3 blinds for £14 commission!![/glow]
