Had a call from Hillarys on Friday re: 2 x wood venetians, both of which are over 100cm wide. I was told that there is a problem with with the tilt controls as I had ordered them to be on the same side as the raise/lower control on each blind. Would I phone my customer to see if he would accept split controls i.e. Tilt one side Raise/lower the other. Needles to say he cancelled.
Has anyone else heard of this problem with wood venetians?

I have it on good authority, that our cut down, ready made, cheap woodens, that we all attempt to sell at a premium price, and are continually let down by quality. Are in fact the same product some of our competitors sell as a cheap version to their actual quality product. We are all deceiving our/their customers into believing they are getting a product they are not.

Same supplier, same product . One metre wide by one metre drop £29.99 solid wood....

anyone else got big problems with wooden valances with returns dropping off? i've tried gluing them in place but can't find a strong enough quick drying adhesive to use in customers house without them noticing. any tips gratefully received.
just had customer reject 2 wood vens fitted last week because of this problem and because she bought some 3 years ago she knows that the quality of the wood has dropped through the floor. she showed me how she can bend the new slats like plastic the old ones are solid. she is not a stroppy cow or even one to try and play the compensation game, she is an average punter who can see that she is getting a sh1t product when she thought she was getting the same quality she has previously had.
wake up mr. lucas!!!

Placed a order for 4 wood Venetians to be fitted into a bay window. Blinds arrived with 1 valance missing and two valances with the returns too short.(you could see the brackets from the side). Placed dor. One week later valences arrive and the two that were too short arrive without any returns! Place second dor. Valences arrive following week but customer informs me that one of the blinds have a cracked slat. Place 3rd dor for replacement blind which arrives two weeks later. The day it arrives customer phones hillarys to complain of warped slats and in another blind, concerned that there all going to warp and crack. Explained this seems to be a bad batch so I dor the whole bay. Bloody hell you can't make this stuff up!
Saturday morning go to appointment, customer wants wood Venetians for a bay window! Just smiled and told her in my experience this was a bad idea. It's just not worth the hassle. Wonder what this week will bring!

Gloryboy!
Get yourself a 'Hot glue gun' from B&Q, Homebase or Screwfix.
They'll set you back around £10 but they are effective.
Get the 'clear' glue sticks rather than the 'white wood glue' ones as the 'clear' are good for loads of jobs.
They take about 4 mins to heat up but once applied will harden with-in 30 secs.
I've used these for:
Wood Vens Valances ( Although the problem is more with the fact they are now supplied too short with this Chinky crap! ). Repairing broken Vert H/rail ends End caps that are visible & fall off Turning up/shortening/re-sticking Verticals hems Re-fixing braid on rollers etc. etc.
Have used them in very hot conservatories without any problems.

Better still. DOR them ALL. A GLUE GUN ! WHAT NEXT... Mig welder, sewing machine, band saw, loom, etc. sorry forgot split balls. We wont need hillarys soon, we will measure, make, dor, remake, and fit onsite. owl. thats it, plus £40 advert and youre in business, with your own blind company.

Well said Owl,
Why should we invest our extra time and money in covering up their incompetence for no reward, and no sign of them trying to improve the situation.
It makes me wonder how Arena ever keep a customer. God forbid Hillary's ever get the lofty idea they can supply to the retail market and someone like John Lewis!

Why not just look on the net at another wood ven supplier. Ask for samples and when you get an order - place it with them instead.
Result - no or very few DOR's ....
Time HQ either sorted the problem once and for all or suspend the department.

thanks greenpesto.
owl, i've been raising dors but they are no better than originals, the crappy hinge things don't stick anymore and the mitred angles never meet because of them and they don't cover the brackets. all i want is to get them up and get out the house with my money, cheaper to buy the glue gun than make numerous visits all the while pissing off the customer. no chance of wood ven dept getting their act together until they admit that short term money saved is going to cost in the long run. i never had problem justifying cost of old woods and customers always appreciated they were paying for the extra quality.

I'll second that- seems like it has back fired big time, but they are not willing to accept it easierly. I do think that they will as the % of DOR's ( and extra payments ! ) will still rise even more now that we know we will actually get paid for doing these repairs/DOR's etc. People will no longer just 'get on with it' as they know HQ will be paying us. While I'm happy that this is happening, I'm concerned over the legal side of these payments with our self-employed status. Broadly, you are * self-employed if you are in business on your own account and bear the responsibility for the success or failure of that business, and * employed if you personally work under the control of someone and do not run the risks of having a business yourself. .......... taken from HM Revenue and customs website www.hmrc.gov.uk/pdfs/ir56.htmP.
