I have had a meeting today with my FSM who advised myself and auntie Hillary that four for 99 will be hitting all regions from january ,also told me 300 core advisors are on the horizon to service the calls expected from the above promotion I thought it was a wind up until I peered insise its briefcase whilst it was in the loo and there it was a 4for99 flyer and a mock advert for our local rag It's to compensate for all the conservatory side orders we're going to lose when Sandersons launch verticals and venetians in January. They certainly wont be going for 3499, they'll leave them for us. Thats why they'll grow by 50% next year and we'll still have the chinless wonder pretending we've grown by 7% and didn't we do well, lets all have a brucie bonus, launch a new web site and compete with B&Q Well said, I agree. Its a shame because we have some nice fabrics now, in the roman/roller range, but we continue to attract the wrong clients with the "tired" advertising. Any reputation Hillarys had as the "John Lewis" of the blinds industry is fast becoming non existent. One reason is its insistence on selling cheap Asian cut-downs, masquerading as a quality made to measure blind at double the price of our competitors. I like it when my customers get what they pay for, and in this case we are ripping them off! Short of lying, what can I say to justify the price?? If Sanderson do branch out and do verticals etc, things will only get worse for us. But at least Sanderson might take us on!

It would make sense them moving in to this market, HD have plenty of scope to supply them, they already supply some of our blinds. Certainly aluwoods are theirs, and I wouldn't be surprised if other ranges were theirs as well. How long then before Sandersons overtake Hillarys in terms of total sales?

Join em actually Sandersons salesmen are on pure commission. It's a bit cut throat but work out the maths:- ave order value £2500 , minimum commission 12% max 20% . they convert 2 out of 3 calls ( 66% for the rest of us ! ) . now I understand why they push so hard for each sale !

I understood it that Hunter Douglas have offered to buy Hillarys several times over the years. Tony Hillary didn't want to when he was running things but it's probably just down to plain stupidity as usual from this current bunch!!!!!
The problem with the market now is that so many people are leaving the likes of Hillarys & are starting up on their own.
This happened 15 years ago in the Double Glazing market & look what a state that is in?!!! The money that used to be made in that business has all but gone.
I've had several customers comment how prices for blinds are 'Mystical' & makes the experience feel like buying windows.
It would be better if may Advisors were to look to the likes of Sandersons for their future because as someone said on here earlier .... Hillarys may not be around for much longer!!!!!!

TS have also been through the transition from private, family owned business to corporate suit ownership. Many sales and managers have left as they don't like the new regime. I understand several have moved to Appeal, and at least 1 has moved to Hillarys, and I think he's only selling, not fitting. Having said that, they are recruiting (they're based 4 miles down the road from me), but so are local companies Trident Blinds and Brilliant Blinds, who are both very busy. Sandersons ran a recruitment ad in a national paper recently stating they grew by 26% last year and expect 50% this year. Makes 7% look pathetic doesn't it?

Advisor Update
Dear Advisor
4 for £99 Promotion
I thought it was appropriate for me to provide you with an update on the “4 for £99” offering we have recently introduced into some of our regional advertising.
As you are no doubt aware, the current instability in the economy has meant a reduction in house purchases, consumer spending and in particular reduced spending on home redecoration and larger purchases. This has resulted in a reduced number of consumers looking to purchase blinds. Currently our performance is better than the majority of the retail sector, but we cannot be complacent and assume this will continue to be the case or be satisfied with our current growth. When a market is not growing, it is important to protect and grow your share of the market, at the expense of your competitors, and this is our current tactic.
When reviewing our competitors’ activity, we have seen in a number of counties, that many lead with highly compelling offers in their advertising, which they use to drive calls and leads. These offers are available to customers but are rarely sold because:
- The fabrics are of poor quality, - The colours are inappropriate for most rooms, - The promotion is not offered in the home unless prompted, - The promotion is on “limited stocks” and therefore it soon runs out,

4 for £99.
Brilliant!
That will get us into the type of home, where we can sell up to a good £400 jaquard!
