Guess what Red, got my first lead Mon in Preston. Expect a round trip for nowt & having to rack my brains as to what scenario I face since we were on the course. They called me up last week & asked if I wanted a lead in Southport- thats nearer to you than me!!!! At least we had a good meal at that pub up the road from Colwick if nothing else.

Got my first lead about 3 weeks ago but customer is messing me about a bit. I have been asked to do 3 others but they are all too far away and if its just another quote then its not worth the wasted time and petrol. Would not be so bad if Hillarys went half on the petrol bill but not intrested. Or even if CLG at least gave the customer an idea of what they cost and save us a load of aggro if it is too much. No fun driving a 100 mile plus, round trip for nothing. Red

Red Is it true that all shutters are delivered to the agent who than needs to transport them.If so what sort of weight and volune are they? MM The majority of orders are delivered to you and come in several flat packs like MFI. Only in exceptional circumstances will they deliver direct to the customer and I think you have to get the OK on this one. I dont really know the weight per carton as I have not done any yet but you have to think carefully about it for transporting it. Best person to ask is mark.lucas@hillarys.co.uk. Red

All the shutter packaging is marked as a two man lift, and this was true for most I done on one job, had mine delivered to customer by washington dispatch no probs there. You will more than likley always need a second person helping you all the time so be prepared to pay extra for this.

Having done the course just 2 weeks ago, imagine my excitement seeing a lead this Saturday, AND a local post code . Just couldn't contain my excitement, had to tweak the date in SAM and see the address - oh shite I'll be lucky to sell clouds Ah well, early doors Saturday

Cut my teeth on first sale! Small window though 54 cm wide X 180 drop & wants tier on tier, d**n! & will need packing as sides taper a bit. Still small but experience will help, I hope.

Customer bought shutters for french doors, £1,100 plus 2 other blinds for £300 ;D going to have to go over my measuring notes again, see what I've done wrong. Rest of day was absolute cr@p though, 2 orders from 7 other leads Got another local lead this week, and an existing customer thinking about

Just completed my first set of shutters ;D ;D ;D ;D
Took a bit of time, but looks really nice. Patio door, top track with 2 pairs of shutters - £1100. Customer pleased enough to add a £20 tip ;D ;D
Took my son with me as big heavy shutters, and a bit of moral support, and took us 3 hours. Considering my first ever fit, didn't think that too bad. Reckon I could do a second set of top track in around 2 hours. Only time you really need 2 people is when hanging shutters and inserting hinge pins. So all you ex-chippys out there, used to hanging heavy doors on your own, how's it done?
Got 1 set of 4 sided frame on order, £700. Be interesting to see how long that'll take

Hi BVM I carry some plastic wedges and a door wedge. If you place which ever one is suitable under the heal of the door you can rock it into position quite easily. It helps if you dont push the first pin all the way home the you have a small amount of play to locate the rest of the pins.
Hope that helps

Only had 1 set delivered to date, and spot on 8 weeks.
I ordered another set about 3 weeks ago, so will have to wait and see.
My understanding is we are moving wood venetian supply to shutter company. Better quality and attention to detail. Probably get bigger discount as well for buying shutters and venetians from single company.

Has eneyone done a bay window yet. took hillarys 10 1/2 weeks to deliver because they cannot get ther act together. All so do not alow 5mm on all sections as this will leave large gaps down each side, make center section excat and only take 2 to 3mm off the side sections.
When i cheked this with sillarys they said take the normall 5mm off all sections that wil give a 7 1/2 mm gap down each side so be carefull

David I have just received my first shutters delivery. It came in about 10 boxes, some of them it took two of us to lift them and I have had to store them in my hall way. They are so bulky we can not get past them and I have no where else to store them. I have had to put them one on top of the other and with 2 children running around am a bit worried they will fall on them and hurt them. I can not fit them for a week or so and will have to live with them taking up all our hall way. Getting them in the car is another story. No Chance in fact. All these problems coupled with all the distance to get to the customers is leading me to think it is not worth all the trouble. They should be delivered direct to the customer and we are then informed of the date so we can arrange a fitting time. I do not think I will do any more until this is resolved and delivery goes direct to the customer and not to us.
