I have a similar question myself which I have not yet resolved, but will update you when I have. In the mean time what I have noticed is if you put your SAM into Flight Mode and then into the cradle and it is connected to the USB connection of your PC and the PC is on a broadband connection, the diary updates go via the broadband connection i.e. free and not via the GPRS.

You can indeed conect through the active sync connection or a wireless connection. When they are available the device will automaticy try to use them rather than GPRS. Unfortunatly I cannot realy give you any specific assistance with wireless or activsync as everybodys setup is diferent

HI Paul, and thanks for your input, but my experience is different, if the phone is switched on, even if it is in the cradle, it seems to try and use the GPRS connection to communicate with HO. However if you put the SAM into flight mode, i.e. turn off all radio communications, and then put it in the cradle connected to a PC which is on an internet connection (mine is boradband) it syncs with HO in a flash, can download client data etc all over the broadband connection and FOC, the key to it seems to be putting it into flight mode to stop GPRS communication first.

My bill for this mounth is much larger than normal I asked vodafone and was tolled that sam can somtimes connect to the internet and download pages at random Has enyone else had this? Haven't had this, but maybe that's what prompted the note recently about turning on flight mode when not in use. Only trouble with that is it stops all communication with H/O I think, both data and phone. Did have something really weird last week though. Was using the land line at home, SAM propped up on fax machine. Buzzing started on land phone, so assumed an incoming mobile call. Sure enough, SAM lit up, and window message "DIALING MARK RUSSELL". Now I wasn't touching the phone, it was propped up almost vertical so nothing was touching the keys, and it still managed to redial my last call, all on it's own - SPOOKY!

on receipt of sam the call charges were set at a lower rate as organized by hillarys with vodaphone because we were all on it,and it was supposed to be a sweetener for us.(while we were looking at the marvelous call charges we missed out on the paper charges)is this deal still on or is it no deal maybe thats why the charges have gone up? we will be the last to know as usual.

My SAm mobile cost per month is £75 t £80. this month bill £88. I only use this to contact Hillarys and to receive Data. Question high amount direct with Voda but told bill fine. Asked to be put on some sort of monthly contract but was told by them cant. This request made 3 or 4 times last time xmas. Spoke to Mike in IT yesterday and he amazed at high cost, he phoned Voda and within 5 minutes was back to me I am now on a monthly tarriff and bill should come down to approx £35 - £40 per month

Bloody hell!!!!!! £75-£80/month? I'd have thrown the thing back by now. I use SAM at every opportunity, last month 85% of all orders done on it. I also use the phone, and have never had a bill higher than £25. Typical month £8.50 line rental, £5-£10 data charges £6-£8 phone calls, and both my itemised data and calls cover 2 pages If you ring any Hillarys registered number, or any other SAM phone, it should only be 3p/minute. Calling cross network it expensive though.
I have found recently, that when using the phone, it doesn't always disconnect when you hang up. See if you have any very long calls

Have used it since Feb 05. I work all 12 hrs a day 4 days a week 1 day for 10 hours and sat morning. so prob get more late/missed deliverys, DOR,s and other probs than most. This was the exact point that i have raised with FSM the more we do the more hassel we get and the more we have to phone and get kept on line waiting for those busy people to answer. Even pre SAM by mobile bill was high but at least i was free to arrange monthly contract. Agree with view to sling in bin but i really do think that sam is a hugh step forward even with its probs, anyhow u aint seen my handwritting

Thanks gray van man but yes i have checked. my usual call time is 4 - 5 mins waiting for support to answer and then 10 mins to get them to log details. I phone an ave of 5 times a day to Hillarys and spend a month 350 - 400 minutes on the d**n thing just raising issues. Cross network is always a lot and i avoid it like the plague or is it bird flu now?

The technology is there, think how many SMSs we got about 3/£99 clearance fabrics. Would be handy from call centre as well, notifying us of cancellations. I never answer my phone when talking with a customer, voice mail costs money to retrieve but a simple text is free and can be read when back in van.
