Additional security measures are not required here ! and i am thinking sillarys spin is coming through somehow. aries9456 I have to disagree strongly with you - in fact, one of my first ever postings last year was on this subject. All large companies run some form of competitor watch. Imagine if some of our competitors got on to this web site, just think about going in to a call, and be greeted with, "Oh, I've just been looking at your web site, so & so blinds told me about it. So your wood venetians are cr@p, ali venetians late, new vertical headrail rubbish, all the advisors are revolting ( ), but I'll get all my blinds for free if I complain enough. Oh, and I might even claim you damaged that chipped bath and get a new one to match my freebie blinds" It's hard enough out there as it, without that. I've also heard that a customer has already used knowledge gained from this forum to work the system and claim a discount. Don't know if true or not If WE control access to this sight, maybe, just maybe, Hillarys will start to use it to respond. What you can be very sure of, is neither Motters, nor any of the moderators want Hillarys to control the forum.

I wouldn't worry too much about HQ getting control over this site. Remember, if pushed too hard I'd just flip the switch and it would be gone ! P.

Even if they offered you money for it??
While on the subject of money, do you know you can get your own workwear made cheaper than buying it from Sillarys.

What happened to the adage nothing to hide nothing to fear?
If there were no issues with crap woodens, crap vertical headrails, late venetians or revolting advisers this forum would be all sweetness and light.
The answers are firmly in the hands of the customers' owners.

Add the last few posts about scripts to my last post.
Absolutely no co-ordination between departments.
No doubt caused by target led management.

Here's something to think about. With all this talk about double dealing advisers,(and I must admit I am tempted to get my woodens from elsewhere),what about Sillarys double dealing. All my local competitors are supplied by Sillarys and can sell their blinds for significantly less than me and make more money as well! So if Sillarys can sell to the competition why can't I get blinds that Sillarys don't do, (ie a decent wooden ;D, or wooden verticals etc) and sell them. Also if a customer rings me direct, are they my customer or Sillarys? I have been trying to Amari Woodweave since March for a customer. (Order taken on SAM - went straight into order queries as no stock) Hillarys still have no stock...it's now June. Yesterday I found 3 web-sites that can all deliver made to measure Amari in 5 days. I was told by one of them that, " they come from Arena Blinds in Nottingham, who also supply Hillarys Blinds - but we are MUCH cheaper, and the blinds are exactly the same." So how can they get then and I can't??? Unless I order them from www.wilsonsblinds.co.uk ??

Who's VAT registered? Is it worth it?
When I started this thread last November, I'd just become a Ltd company and was pondering, but wary, of going VAT registered. The general consensus seemed to be to avoid it unless essential, as you were little more than an unpaid tax collector, working for the Fat Controller. Cash flow improved, but you would be more likely to be subject to investigation. Having just met with my accountant, I'm now having second thoughts, and here's why. If my income is £1,000 and I spend £350, my company profit is £650, of which I can take 80% as dividend, leaving 20% corporation tax. So I get £520. If I'm VAT registered, Hillarys will add VAT to my commission, but my income will still be £1,000. From my £350 expenditure, I can claim £52 VAT back, leaving me £298, so my company profit is now £702, of which 80% is £562, giving me an extra £42.
So anyone who's been registered for some time .........
IS THIS RIGHT?
IS IT WORTH DOING?
Anything that diverts money from Gordon Brown to my pocket seems a good idea.

does this relate more to Ltd company vs sole trader ?
I did a little job for an accountant friend of mine and he tried to spell it out to me.
Try this one out !!!
You can work as a sole trader for a minimum of two years and then setup a Ltd company . you then 'sell' your business to the Ltd company for at least twice your annual profit. Now you don't have to pay tax on future profits !!!
or something like that .....
long and short, I could find out the full monty on this - or goto your account and find out.
he also said that going vat registored isn't really that useful for a sole trader, but when your a company it can work out better.
If we had our own business buying the blinds from hillarys then it's all different as we claim back the vat on the purchase price.
Useful when going to companies, but with domestic you either have to swollow the lost on the vat or add it to your price.
All this is covered in that tax guide shop I had listed at the top on the forum a while back.
