I smiled when I heard at the regional meeting that now new recruits are expected to do 5 days training at their expense at Nottingham.
My total training with Hillarys has been 1 hour and 15 minutes in a hotel meeting room in the Midlands 7 years ago when I joined, followed by 1 hour on Awnings 4 years ago ( because I was forced to go--never sold one yet!)... What sort of tender little failures are they bringing on now who need 5 days to learn how to ring up for a DOR??? Or do they go to have the "Hillarys Way" chip fitted on the first morning, and it takes 4 days to get over the anaesthetic?? Or MORE LIKELY the trainers are folk who talk a good talk but cannot walk the walk? Anyone got other suggestions, or am I just a cynical git? Bear

YOUR DEAD BLOODY RIGHT BEAR. My first vertical blind fitted, the customer showed me how to go on. i put the cord weight on the chain!!!!!! Twas my conservatory that they cocked up with, that briught about pythagoras, ask Monsiuer Beardsley!! never saw a f.s.m. for the 1st 5 years. so why do we need them now........oh eye....... so they can take a cut of what we earn the company.... What good are they really ? Oh yes, just in case our lead effect isn't up to scratch, they can come and see how we go on. Well let them come and spend a month with me, and see how it really works. Yes a month. every day 8am until 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 o'clock on a night. and fit them all themselves as well. See how they perform. If it wasn't for us longer serving advisors putting this effort in, would we have f.s.m's any way

I and all the rest of you must remember, what Hillarys is about now. Figures adding up in columns etc, make sure the accountants are happy, so that it becomes a very profitable company to sell on. never mind all us lot, running around like blinded rabbits.

so far in my 7 1/2 years I have seen the 'role' of fsm change alot. Now they seem to do 3 things.
If we have a problem - pass us onto sales support '.....as that's what they are there for not us ! '
Work out all the figures - a standard employee could do that if they ever got ahold of the right figures !
Allocate the postcodes vs our availablity - a couple more people in diary maintenance could do that.
So, HQ - the biggest cost cut and most effective one seems to be to get rid of the fsm who's role is no longer as manager.

FSM's..... Lay off them..... I like my FSM. And I know he has a mortgage and family like the rest of us. Don't blame all the Hillarys monumental mistakes on the FSM's, who have to do it the "Hillarys Way" just like us!!! Getting rid of them will not make our jobs any easier... perhaps they are just as cheesed off as us. Now.... back to serious stuff.... who is being kicked off the X-Factor tonight.

Ive asked to go on Training courses when Area Manager visits usually twice a year.
Then new Area Manager.
Always get I do not understand why you have not been on that course.
You will be next In line.
Perhaps I am not THE CURRENT AGENT SPEC. Perhaps I never was as I failed my first interview, and when I tried again the Guy obviously did not know he had interviewed me before.
So I never get these courses apart from SAM.
My Training lasted 4hrs.
Little instruction on how to fit, cope with lintels etc.
I would actually like Hillary's to make TRAINING DVDs
Issue all agents with any training material that is handed out on the Training Course.
I would be reluctant to do Five days at Nottingham at my own expense.
Apparently this is the way to get committed advisor's, who are prepared to invest in their future.
My Financial Commitment to Hillary's runs into thousand Extra Phone Lines now redundant , Faxes, Vehicles ruined . SAM Tape Measures Measuring Sticks several Drills 16 thousand Miles a year travelling on behalf of Hillarys

The 2 day training course Hillarys gave us wasnt bad but nothing prepares you for the amount of travelling involved. We were told we would get the 3 towns in an 8 mile radius round us - Nailsea, Portishead and Clevedon. Instead we are also covering North Bristol, and Weston-super-Mare and covering 500 miles a week. Disillusioned? Yes.
