A new bit of silliness from Hillarys.
Saw a voucher today (latest direct mail promotion) which basically said ‘give this voucher to a friend or family, if they order blinds they get 10%, and you get entered in a draw to win £ 500 worth of free blinds’. Great idea, and the vouchers are printed with a reference number which presumably ties up with the customer making the recommendation. So far so good ?
The prospect of £ 500 worth of blinds is quite attractive, so might well bring in some recommendations. From Hillarys viewpoint, the £ 500 worth of blinds probably only cost about £ 100 to make plus (one hopes) just under £ 75 commision to the agent doing the fit. No VAT, because they’re giving them away (so perhaps the agent earns 17.5% of £ 500 = even better). Still looks good, doesn’t it.
Only problem – I’ve looked at my SAM from all angles and I can’t find the slot to feed in the voucher, nor can I find a field in the order entry procedure to enter the voucher reference. Sure, I can check ‘voucher’ as the reason for the discount, but that doesn’t get the voucher into the prize draw, does it ?
So are we now being encouraged to ignore SAM, attach the voucher to a paper order, and send in the post ? Not on your life !
Perhaps they want us to save all the vouchers up and then send them in one envelope at the end of the promotion – sounds sensible, but I haven’t seen any instructions on this.
Once again, a case of different departments pulling in different directions and a complete breakdown of internal communication. Oh, well – whatever !
