Just been to see my Accountant--its that time again!
You may wish to know that I cannot claim ( according to him--and a directive he showed me from the Revenue to him) any relief for any Hillarys "stuff"
Magnetic signs for van- advertise another business entity Hillarys Blinds--not the one ( Me and the Wife) who bought the signs and had the Van sign written on the back and front. If we advertised ourslves then we can claim but in this case NO WAY
Likewise for the Hillarys clothing Over £100 spent here and none of it allowable-as it is not in Revenues opinion Protective and merely an advert. Revenues communication state that if they allowed this then every fan wearing an Aston Villa shirt would try to claim--but all they are doing is advertising Villa.
So Nice one Hillarys Accountant in your Memo to us all last year. You got it wrong again--When Uniform and van need changing ---We are not advertising Hillarys. Signing my van cost me over £250 Never had one call yet from it, and as 4 other advisors work this area I now know it was a huge waste. Bear

You should never advertise the 0800 number, that goes to Hillarys and to other agents. lf you have a magnetic sign get the number changed to your number. Your own phone number goes direct to you.
l have just fitted some blinds for an accountant ( not mine ) and he said that uniform or any sort of logo etc should be supplied by HO. He asked about SAM etc.
He went on to say
"lf its like that, why do you work for them"
interesting question!

I am amazed. If you were a Franchise you would promote your brand locally and presumuely claim tax relief as you have territory rights.
Not all Franchises operate on an exclusive area but I presume they would be able to claim marketing and promotions costs because the Franchise company wants each Franchise to fight for bussiness using all Marketing Statergies.
For Example Van Signage, Uniforms etc
Personally I would call into your local Tax Office and ask them

I R ruling may not allow claims for clothing as protective? Then what are we doing getting covered in dust, grease from kneeling on sinks & kitchen worktops etc? This all takes its toll on clothing & if not allowable against such must surely be allowable for section under advertising. "Tha gets nowere lad bart arguin th' toss!"
