Dec 16 is a Friday, Xmas is a Sunday. OK, with SAM they get the order immediately and no doubt they will put on weekend shifts in production, so perhaps it can work depending on the scheduling of deliveries BUT....
I have kids, I have guests for Xmas, yes I have a life ! I also have to do my bit towards Xmas shopping, preparing for the festivities, socialising with friends and family and (whilst my kids are a bit older) many of you will be wanting to attend nativity plays and the like.
There is no way that I am fitting blinds on Christmas Eve (Saturday) and, being realistic, I fully intend to finsih working not later than the Thursday lunchtime. So, if I take orders on 16 December I need to take delivery not later than Tuesday 20 December to ensure fitting before Xmas, and only then if the customer is available when I need them to be (no messing about with customers dictating availability during that week).
The critical aspect of all this is that we need a clear indication from Despatch of the scheduling of deliveries in the fortnight before Xmas, and we need it much earlier than we usually get it - I would suggest first week of December as the deadline for telling us exactly when our deliveries are going to be.
However, don't get too concerned. Hillarys always make a big play about Xmas being a busy period but in my experience it never has been. December has always been the worst month of the year for sales, and there are hardly any sales calls in the last week before Xmas so you can fill your diary with fits.
You can also get diary maintenance to cancel your sales availability for, say, 14 - 16th December so that you are not caught with any of these last minute panic orders.

More thoughts on this, but from a Marketing viewpoint.
Why, at the beginning of November, are customers being told that they can leave it to the last minute to order their blinds ? This sort of advertising is positively encouraging them to put it off until later. This must be a nightmare for production planning and despatch, as well us for us in the field.
Personally I think it is too early to be mentioning Christmas at all but perhaps from mid-November onwards the ads and leaflets should begin to reflect the fact that Xmas is coming, in late November / early December we should be exhorting customers to 'order now !', and only in the last week before cut-off should we be indicating that there is still time.

You are absolutely right hereticus.
Marketing only seems to be able to do 3 things:-
1. Put the same old advert in week after week - anyone can do that ! 2. Cut the price to next to nothing - anyone and his dog can do that ! 3. Tell people not to buy until later and guarantee to deliver when they can't be sure they can - not everyone can do that only people who don't know anything about marketing / selling !!!!!!!

As a part time advisor I find the whole 16th thing a joke, I only fit on Fridays and given my current work load and willingness I am already booked to the 16th December. Any order I take next week will be a new year year fit. Perhaps marketing should have consideration for the advisors before they start to make unreasonable claims that only damage the "brand"

I have to say that I'm in a little bit of a pickle about this as our 2nd child is due on the 22nd of Dec !!! ( I know - Not the 'Hillarys' way to have a baby due at Xmas and getting in the way of work ! ) .
I for one will be downing tools when I get the call from the wife no matter when it is. Should make it interesting if it's around that time....

If it due on 22nd should be plenty of time to have baby, go shopping and then cook xmas dinner. Typical for a women to suggest that as an excuse not to cook.
Seriously though, all the best to you, mrs motters and the motlets.
