For the past few weeks I've been looking at various SatNav packages that would be compatible with SAM. I think that the best (my preference) on the market at the moment is "TomTom navigator 5 bluetooth GPS". It appears to come with everything you need to start navigating straight away in Britain. There is also the ability to upgrade to foriegn maps if you wish. It is in dixons at the moment at £199 for the basic package, however it can be found cheaper on various websites with various optional extras, mounts, speaker mounts etc which do push the price up. (Added 30th August) Having checked another website I have found that TomTom 5 wired GPS has a version specifically for the Vodafone Vpx (SAM)www.pdamods.com/products.asp?cat=103Second option down the page

I run Tom Tom and it is great. Have run it now for over a year and have found it invaluable. Just get a cradle for in car usage from Vodafone. The 5 version also finds properties by complete postcode. Version 4 was only first 4 digits. It does have some glitches but you will work them out for yourself. I do not even carry a map around these days!

silly question, but I see that TT is supplied with an SD card. What happens when we take out our own SD card from Hillarys ?
Do we have to keep swapping the cards over ?

I tried it, SAM seems to run ok without the card but I dont think you'd have access to all the offers and fabric availability, so if you're going to use tomtom on it you probably would have to keep changing cards

I'd be interested to know how to transfer the hillarys info onto another card. Is it done through SAM itself or do you need a card reader

I have installed a 1GB card to hold my 'Tom Tom' maps and music etc. SAM back up, transferred automatically to the new card. I now keep my old cards as spares.

Also, will the route planner work with the gps ?
Only reason I ask is that I don't have the gps hardware.

Thinking of getting Tom Tom on the Vpx. I assume it works through a cradle speaker, so what happens to an incoming phone call? Will it still go through the bluetooth headset, or the speaker, or what?

If you get a call whilst using sat nav it mutes the voice guidance but the screen instructions carry on. It's fantastic. If you go the wrong way it just re routes you immeadiately.
best device i ever bought for my hillarys business oh except perhaps for a dewalt 18v drill which just loves concrete lintels.

Sorry to sound like a complete wally, but I am thinking of investing in Sat Nav for my SAM device. Everything I read suggests that TOM TOM is the one to go for. I allready have a hands free kit for the SAM device hard wired into the car. CAN ANYONE TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT I NEED (ie SOFTWARE), WHERE I CAN OBTAIN IT & THE LIKELY COST.
