Well think I've received the nearest thing Hillarys could send me as a Christmas Card - A Year End Memo containing the the following:-
1. 3 for offer throughout January - Thanks earnings per hour less than £5 continuing 2. Diaries, expecting higher volume of leads in New Year so need as much availability as possible, in January recruitment and postcode changes possible - Sounds like a threat either you give me more availability or taking on more agents and/or you'll lose some postcodes 3. Advisor Errors not to target, extra care needed as this leads to customers not coming back - Wake up please, I've had about 3 mis-measures this year compared to DORs caused by bad quality or manufacturing errors every week. Who's losing customers ?? 4. SAM, from March orders forms as we know them obsolete - I use SAM but nice threat to others for Xmas 5. Holidays, let me know your holidays, avoid your holidays in March, May, August, November, December and I'm (FSM) have these 5 weeks booked off - Oh ok then I'm not suppose to be Holidaying with my kids this year. 6. Have a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for 2006 - I will but no thanks to this memo.
It was 4 A4 pages which I presume was national with spaces for FSMs to add bits in. If this was suppose to motivate me then Sales Management haven't a clue. If this was meant to encourage me to consider over Christmas if I should be looking elsewhere to work with a more empathic company that has some clue of what is going on it was very successful.
Happy Christmas Hillarys

I have been an agent for 3 years, but over the last 3 months I have become really concerned about the way Hillarys are marketing their products and treating agents.
The 3 blinds for £99 is very serious, it might move product for Hillarys but I for one have found that it has led to lots of extra work for less reward. Now that they are going to offer Acacia as the fabric, it can only get worse.
I am hoping that this is a short term policy, because I will be reducing my availability as I have better things to do than fitting 3 blinds for £14.68.
Does anybody else feel the same way, or are my concerns unfounded?

it seems to me that a lot of companies are adopting the stance that noboby counts anymore but the shareholders,it will not be long before fsms will be complaining on this site if they have the bottle because their earnings are linked to ours

You are not alone mate. I have been told I HAVE to fit blinds which missed Xmas delivery, and who were given anything from 20% to a MASSIVE £300 quid ( off £880.00 order!!!) and I have just been told by Colwick I will only get commission on the nett price paid by the customer. "Your contract says you get paid on nett money received!!"--" So thats what you'll get" This is B****CKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine you delayed the gas board coming to fit a new boiler by 3 weeks and then told them you were cutting their bill by 20% because Xmas got in the way!!! You would have a debt collector from British Gas on your door in 14 days.. Why must I put with this S**TE? ?? Hillarys--ANOTHER Agent of long standing and experience is ready for the off---just let me get my fittings in and paid on, because if I give notice now the b*****ds will put me on "commission stop" and I will never see my money. Tony Hillary come back? ? An island is a solid piece of land totally surrounded by water. A Hillarys Agent is a solid person totally surrounded by w*****s. Nonails

Did you ever think that maybe that is what they want.. We know how good the job used to be--I confess I really liked it,--but now it is frankly a chore from which all the joy and expectation has been removed,---I dread getting in the van every day and turning SAM on.. They want a band of fresh folk who never knew how good it was so they won't complain...and they can rip them off by not paying the bonuses we used to get, over and above basic commission... Maybe it is time we all looked elsewhere as well... Life is too short to waste it on this shower ..... Bear

Nonails Your contract should say "We will pay you a commission based on the sales which you achieve". That means Hillarys cannot penalise you because they choose to give a discount after you have agreed a price with the customer. I believe the legal dept at Hillarys are trying to find a loop hole, but without success. It is looking likely that they will have to pay us back for all the times when they have "illegally" made a deduction from our commission.

Joy and Mick have commented today that :
''Your contract should say "We will pay you a commission based on the sales which you achieve". That means Hillarys cannot penalise you because they choose to give a discount after you have agreed a price with the customer. I believe the legal dept at Hillarys are trying to find a loop hole, but without success. It is looking likely that they will have to pay us back for all the times when they have "illegally" made a deduction from our commission''.
I agree that we should be pursuing this line of enquiry as Customer Services are far too generous in giving retrospective discounts and price concessions, hitting the agent in the pocket every time through no fault of our own. Once an order has been accepted and entered on the system, the commission payable should be locked into that order value - if Hillarys then discount because of their problems (poor quality, repeated DOR's, failed delivery promises, etc) - we should not be expected to contribute to the cost by means of reduced commission. Surely it is enough that we have to return to the customer to put the job right, at a direct cost to us in terms of time, petrol, and lost appointment slots ? It seems that we are paying twice whilst Hillarys are offsetting their losses.
However, I cannot reasonably see that we could expect any retrospective settlements, or at least not over more than a few months, and any such expectation might make it more difficult to achieve a resolution to this problem. Whilst many of us feel hard done by over past deductions it would be difficult to identify and document every instance, implementation would be unfair as not all agents have the same level of diligence over their records, and the potential cost to Hillarys could be horrendous, so they will understandably resist with all their might.
However, if we offered an armistice - forget past transgressions provided that we can achieve agreement for the future - perhaps we might find it easier to get a fair hearing and acheive some progress on this issue.
Also, there is another aspect to this. What about those occasions where we attend a lead, make a sale, fit the blinds, take payment, but then payment fails (i.e cheque bounces). We have done everything expected of us but do not get paid a penny so effectively we are being made responsible for credit control. Is this not part of the same problem ?
