Does anybody know why we identify the room in which the blind is to be fitted when we take an order through SAM? When I receive the blinds the info isn't on the sticker and I sometimes have to re-measure the windows to find out what goes where. Am I missing something???

Hope you'll find it helpful and become a regular contributor. If you look at the stickers on the packing, e.g. louvre boxes, h/rail sleeves, ven. box, you'll find the room code on the bottom left hand of the sticker. DI=dining, HA=hall-stairs-landing and so on. Easy to miss, I actually asked ICT several months after I'd been using SAM, so know where you're coming from.

Much obliged Blue Van Man. That will save me a lot of head scratching!

You're welcome. Whilst there is a lot of moaning on this forum, we really can help each other out on here. If you look under blind type section, you'll find lots of hints and tips coming from people with years of real, practical experience, rather than FSMs with little more than training room based fitting experience.
Most of the moaning is just releasing frustration and fully justified, and can seem a bit repetitive, but don't let it put you off

Another hint, to help you identify blinds without having to rely on SAM or packaging labels.
When measuring a number of blinds in a house, always start from the front door and work clockwise, then again from the top of the stairs work clockwise, and similarly go clockwise around a conservatory.
Sounds straightforward, and I'm sure the majority of advisors do precisely that, but there's always somebody who will benefit from stating the seemingly obvious.

In addition if you fill out the 'Location' this is also printed on the labels on the box and the headrail plastic covering, but not on the headrail itself, personally I use codes of fr fl br bl and m for front left/right back right/left and master when dealing with bedrooms.
Cheers

In most cases this works, but sometimes the labels are misprinted and the room does not appear or is overprinted with other info. I always measure as hereticus does and use similar codes to euroweb, but always write the room details on paper along with the blind details and I sketch the window for handles, and whether tilt and turn, and if fitting into wood or concrete. I use this info when sitting down with the customer to select fabrics and controls, and find it easier to calculate prices, without having to type everthing into SAM, although this may now be better with the last SAM release.
1 glaring ommission, however, is louvre only orders. Where there are more than 1 set, the blinds lables on the plastic bag containing the louvres, do not have the blind number on the label, or drop size but do have the quantity and after the agents name, is a 9 digit number, and these are in increasing order from blind 1.

It's not only louvre-only orders. I've had 2 same spec verticals for the same room, come in 2 separate louvres boxes and 2 separate sleeves, all marked blind 1 of 1. You don't even know which set of louvres goes with which headrail. It happens when 1 blind is made at Colwick and the other Washington.

Although I will TRY to get on with SAM once I've got the latest update ( for which I am still waiting! )... I do find that when it comes to the fitting date I've got so little information on the stickers etc. that I spend more time than normal trying to sort out which blind goes where.
I find that SAM generated orders don't always have the stickers placed on the correct bags of louvres anyway so it's a bit of a farce!!!! It would be ridiculous spending time on a 'fit' scrolling through SAM on site either.
Everything on paper is plain to see, easy to follow & I can put comments, locations or even drill required in the order pad margins etc.
This has become more important since Sillarys have started splitting the orders between Nottingham & Washington.
I find that 2 to 3 weeks since the order I can't always remember the customer let alone where or how I am to fit the blinds. Notes on the paper help every time.
Another point scored for paper orders I think!!!!!

Understand what you mean, GP. I was VERY reluctant to fit without paper copy to refer to. Like Hereticus and others I work in left to right sequence, so have a good idea of what goes where. On SAM, as well as room, there's location. So, if you're doing bedrooms, I use "front left", "back right", or maybe pink or even child's name. This all appears on the printed sticker. When you're finalising the order and selecting fit date, there's another field for fitting notes. I put in things like local map ref. so I don't have to look it up again, what I'm fitting in to, eg. PVC, tile & conc, cat. so I know which drill to take in, and any other info like "set on front edge", "4cm down" and so on. This appears on your diary print out and also in the SAM notes. Only time I ever refer to SAM is if I have a problem, which isn't often You're never going to love SAM, but you never know, you might just start accepting it And answer this honestly - how many DORs have you had in the last 6 months due to data entry errors and ommissions, and wrong or missing fit dates

Although I will TRY to get on with SAM once I've got the latest update ( for which I am still waiting! )... !! GP, and others - the latest SAM release is available now - the hold up is not with IT but with the printers who are doing the handbook notes. I got IT to email me the instructions and I installed the update early last week - some very nice new features which will make life a lot easier. So, if you're wetting yourself waiting for it, just phone the IT helpdesk.

Hi Greenpesto
Re your posting regarding fitting blinds ordered thru SAM and trying to identity which blinds are for which room.
Alan fits my blinds and he doesn't use a sam machine........he just goes on the Invoice information and stickers on the blinds. Sometimes the stickers are wrong but he doesn't seem to have any major problems with it.............unless he's too scared to tell the boss .......me!!! ;D
