Do any of you charge the customer EXTRA for drilling in porcelain tiles, as do most of the trades, due to the cost of the drill bits and the low number of holes per bit? Or do Hillarys provide them F.O.C to agents. What about 3-99 punters I think £20 per hole in porcelain tiles or they can DIY, an i aint jokin.

l do not charge them, and l do not do 3499.
l use several tile drills and swop them over as soon as they get hot. lf they get too hot they start to melt and the tunstan bits just fall out. Thankfully l do not come across that many, but the porcelain tile is starting to get more common.

Agree with your idea , but i have not charged any extra yet! BUT..... on a large order for blinds drilled into metal lintels then i do charge extra . I knock a given amount off the hillarys price (say £20) and ask for this in cash to be paid to me to compensate for the number of twist drills i get through. Then generally to prove my point i leave the customer the blunt twist drills behind. YES... i know hillarys will supply 3.2 mm HSS bits , but i prefer my own (screwfix) 3.0 mm HSS jobber bits! They cost about £2 for a pack of 10 plus the postage ! It's only fair i break even ! and for small orders (2 or 3 Blinds) i don't charge. Personally i prefer drilling into concrete , using a BOSCH SDS Hammer drill and 5.5 mm bits ( which seem to last very well ) at least you know the score!

I know I've been around Hillarys for a long while, but you state Hillarys supply HSS drill-bits??? Never heard of it....Sorry I was told that I was to supply allmy own tools and ladders--Once tried to get an FSM ( long since sacked) for drill bits and was advised to mix travel and sex.!!! Just where is the order form for these free goodies??? What else is free?? The best free thing from Hillarys is the silicone spray in big cans--marvellous for cleaning aluminium wheels, amongst other things!! Bear

No wonder they see us as the enemy and treat us like naughty kids that can't be trusted. Some of you are quick to run to trading standards to whing about hillarys. What happens when a customer moans about being charged £20 for free fitting. They may be happy at first, but when blinds go wrong and get dord again and again, they'll look for something to pick on

Hey there I have been an agent for Hillarys for over 27 years and I have NEVER had anything for free except order forms and now printer paper. How does one go about dipping into these freebies?

You can almost get what u want from Hils, Just depends on if u get a numpty operator or someone who knows what to do. Hss bits 3.2mm amongst other sizes + 5.5 sds bits (£3.50 in Diy shop). I last got 20 in one jiffy bag used 2 in 6 months. but now nearly 500 of you know about it i will think it will be stopped totally. I have never known an order form for these though, i think previously they were on the stock parts list for shop fitters employed by hillarys.
One other point the person who charges £20.00 extra for a full house with steel lintels is bang out of order especially when you by 10 for £2.00 as stated, you would struggle to use a 100 in 6 months for your £20.00. I'm all for making a bit extra but to tell the customer you are doing this come on.

I got some 3.2mm HSS and 5.5mm SDS from Hillarys, but only once. Cheap drills (sums Hillarys up really). The HSS blunted after a couple of holes in catnics, and the SDS melted after a few lintels. The Screwfix drills are pretty naff as well. I pay around £3/10 jobbers at local tool merchants and they last 2-3 times as long as the Screwfix cheapos. Their Irwin brand are a bit better though. I'd rather pay a few pence per job than keep faffing around changing bits every couple of holes. Places like Cromwell or Buck & Hickman are much cheaper than B&Q and generally better quality

I agree why charge extra for doing your job you sirs are cowboy fitters and I would sack you on the spot.If anyone tryed that one on myself or auntie hillary I would take their heads off
