I know that you didn't accept this statement and persued your claim, achieving recompense even if it was by other means.
However, on a point of principle, what a totally fatuous comment to come from the company. The deliveries may well be made by sub contractors but they are sub contractors employed by Hillarys to do a job for Hillarys and it is the principal, not the sub contractor, who is ultimately responsible. In this sort of situation your beef is with Hillarys - it is up to them to reach an amicable settlement and then it is up to them whether they wish to pursue a seperate claim against the sub contractor. They cannot, under law, step back from the situation and leave you to claim against the sub contractor.

It would be a reasonable course to take IF Hillarys was a reasonable Company to try to deal with.
