After 18 months of Hillarys I was finally given an exit pass last week by the offer of a permanent job from a local company. Having just done my tax return for the year I worked out that even the modest starting sallery they are offering will give me a 40% pay rise over my Hillarys commission.
Amazingly it was my sales experience gained from Hillarys that got me the interview - so it has been worth it after all! Perhaps now my shoulders will recover from the dreaded blue bag. I will miss being able to drop in on friends occasionally and have the odd day off without asking anyone. I will not miss driving 20 minutes to a customer who is out, selling a single roller for £7 commission, losing customers when the fabric I have just sold them gets discontinued from under me, or working evenings and Saturdays!

Good luck in your new venture Paul D,
I think you'll find that there are now many others queuing up behind you looking for that 'exit pass'.
I have been self-employed for more years than not, as I prefer the freedom that goes along with it. However, in the past few years with Hillarys I have lost that freedom. Income is at an all time low with little chance of making it up with these people.
As I've said ... Good luck for the future!!!

Paul,D. Good luck with your future job. The frustrating feelings you must have had are something we are all experiencing with Hillary's. The phrase "banging your head against a brick wall" springs to mind. If you had joined Hillary's 5 years or more ago, you would have seen how real business people ran the company and you would have prospered. Sadly it is run now by people that quite frankly, just don't have a clue or don't care. As I always said "agents ran their own business and Hillary's prospered. Take that away from them and their are no goals to achieve, no feeling of gratification and no direction. If you work in a high stress job, the least you need is control over it but a high stress job with no control whatsoever is tantamount to a disaster waiting to happen. Any way, enough of me trying in vain to educate the so called educated. Good luck Red

Thanks for the good luck wishes! I only have three days of fittings left, then I can unpack the toolkit and return the sales bags. I would like to say that in amongst the ijuts there have been one or two really genuine and helpful people on the Hillarys service line; but their excellence just shows up the rest even more. Apparently I now have a new FSM. Excellent, now there is someone new not to talk to me for the next 6 months. GP - you are right about self employment - I have been self employed for 10 years now, but am going back to a regular job. Sort of exchanging one set of freedoms for another really. The positive side is that I now have absolutely no work-related things to do outside of 9-5, no work at weekends, no self-assessment tax forms, and a guarenteed salary at the end of each month.

Ok..... steal my thunder! I am here to say goodbye too.... After a long optimistic few months of hoping things will improve, :'(we have made "The Decision" !! Mick and I are handing in our notice today! ;D (You lot know before our FSM...) Some of you may aleady know the new path we are taking..... .....and for anyone else interested.... Mick has been earning more money ( without my help!) doing roof work with his mate. No hassle - No 3 roofs for £99 - No one taking the hard earned money back off him afterwards!! And me! I am enjoying looking for a new job.....( although I might take my time doing it!) (See picture on left!) We have a month left to tie up lose ends, so I ain't quite gone yet!! But like Paul in the last post "My bags are packed" Joy

Good luck Joy. Sad to see yet another long term advisor leaving. I hope it all goes well for you. Red Good Luck Joy n Mick Its been a pleasure knowing you. Good Bye too to Paul.. all the best... I am shortly leaving as I am now well established elsewhere, but will not be giving notice, as if I do then my money stops immediately, and I have to beg for it in 3 months time--as I have been reliably informed by some who left and did the right thing , and then found they had shot themselves in the wallet! Never forget its Colwick you are dealing with!! I will fit all I have ,take a week off, pull a sicky, bank my money and go. Its all Hillarys deserve. they broke any Contract I had the day they Stole My COMMISSIONS and did unlawful clawbacks, so they can shove it if they want to do the " Contract " thing. Dont forget everyone to post a happy note on here for Ross K for his weekly Friday visit--I see Bear has started already--go for it , my son... Blindsfitter
