Many of you will have received the latest mailer advising that, following a trial in six counties, the Delta 7 headrail is being rolled out into another seventeen counties from this week.
In this mailer it tells you that you can calculate the width of the bunch by looking up the number oif carriers for the blind width, and multiplying by 0.9 cms. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AND PATENTLY INCORRECT AND MISLEADING - why don't they check these things before mailing them out ?
They have, of course, forgotten about the gap at the side which allows the end fabric to rotate and also for the controls to hang. The correct calculation would be number of carriers x 0.9 cms plus 6.0 cms (89mm) or plus 8 cms (127mm).
However, no customer needs it accurately to the last millimetre, and none of us want to get the calculator out just for this, so a simple 'rule of thumb' is to ignore the 0.9 and treat as 1.0 cms, then add a different amount according to the length of the headrail, so you simply look up the number of carriers and add 5.0 cms up to 15 fabrics, 6.0 cms for 15-25 fabrics, and 7.0 cms for 25+ fabrics, then add another 2.0 cms if 127mm louvres, for example :
Width 190cms (127mm) = 16 carriers, therefore 16 + 6 + 2 = 24.0 cms bunch.
Once used a couple of times this formula is easy enough to carry in memory, and will always give the correct bunch width to within a centimetre.
Of course, it would be even easier if we could look up bunch size on SAM (and similarly with stack height on wood venetians and romans).
Anway, hope this simplified formula helps to make life easier.

Misleading information from Hillarys ? Surely not! Seriously, where do we look up the number of carriers for the width of the blind. Is it on the price lists Is it on Sammy boy Do we do a Google search Where?

Or if you are not in one of the chosen counties and haven't received the mailer, it's on page 13 of the Verticals section of the technical handbook.

Of course, i never leave home without the technical handbook So photocopy this page, punch two holes in it, and stick it at the back of the vertical section of your price list - it isn't rocket science, or (as my wife and kids now say) it isn't rocket salad !

Hows this for misleading. Went to fit con sides today.Nice lady makes the coffee and chats. Fit all headrails and begin to hang louvres.Gets to 30 and find I have 3 left. Lady asks are they spares, thats a good idea says she. No says I there are 3 carriers short on the headrail, which was marked as having 33. Upshot is do I DOR,which I will not get paid for, or return later ,as she lives close to me,after I have added 3 carriers. As she is in a turmoil I decide to return later however this now means I have again sorted out anther cockup for hillarys and no record as to the DOR. What would you do. MM

MM still raise a d.o.r, the bar stewards will at least know that the rail was made wrong. then keep the d.o.r rail for spares. then d.o.r the 2nd rail to get a payment ;D

The new delta 7 rails look c##p and are just another example of Sillary's cutting costs, hiking prices, and spinning it all to look like improvements!
I seem to remember a similiar spin with the re-vamped woods (in fact I have it on dvd) and they are still a load of S##t!
I have seen a competitors rail and it is not the skeleton that ours is, and has a nice curved side profile. If he got hold of ours he could show it to his customers as a comparison and he'd win more orders.
I am fast losing confidence in Sillarys to now produce a product I can feel good about selling. I'm seriously tempted to buy woodens from elsewhere.

Like your way of thinking farmer, play them at their own games. ;D exactly , games. Why is something so simple being complicated to the point where everyone is peed off and wanting to leave.. suppose thats what happens when the profit columns are big enough...........the money this firm wastes is unreal
