Hi Swalk999,
Check out sotware aplications, under SAM plenty info for you to read with ref: to Tom Tom.
By the way TOM TOM works spot on.

On the subject of TomTom ... my SAM is a Vodaphone v1620 model but I can't find this model on any SatNav sites to match up with the correct TomTom 5 system.
Also if I buy an SD card with more memory is it easy to put the SAM software onto it?
What happens when we get SAM upgrades etc?
Any suggestions please?

Hi Pesto, no need to load SAM onto new card, all the programming is in the device itself. Just put new card in and away to go. Would only need the SD card originally supplied with the device if you need to do a full restore on the device

I think you will find that the v1620 is a branded version of the QTEK9090.
As far as Card is concerned I believe the SAM software is not held on it and the card is only used for upgrades etc so just take the TOM TOM card out when you need to do upgrade. Best check with IT but I think that is correct.
I have an earlier version running on the Palm and recommend it. The only thing against running it on SAM compared to buying the TOM TOM dedicated version is that you have to keep putting it in and out of the holder between calls. When I was using my Palm for a diary and gps I kept going into appointments forgetting to take the palm with me. ------------------- phugly answered as I was typing my reply, so there you have it, we must both be right.

Thanks to both of you ... very helpful indeed!!!!!
Two more questions though ...
.... What is this about switching SD cards between TomTom & going into a sales call that I have read in earlier postings?
Is the memory on the PDA sufficient to run TomTom?

I just copied TOM TOM and SAM software on to a larger card. Works fine. I find TOM TOM great for finding the last few roads, especially in the dark, but it has very strange ideas how to get to an area. I program it as I leave home but turn the volume down until I'm in the area, at which point it's fantastic. You can also program in an itinerary, which I do the night before. As you arrive at your first call, it recognises you've been there and moves to the next address on the list - BRILLIANT.
Copying the SAM software can either be done through a card reader, or just connect via the cradle and USB port. Go in to file explorer and copy and paste from Hillarys card to hard disk, then back to new SD card. If you switch ActiveSync to connect through the network, you can also download software upgrades, price updates and customer information for free.

Best check with IT but I think that is correct. I'm pretty sure the daily backup is held on the SD card. If your device goes belly up, you'll need that to get your diary information back

gvm your right I've just had a look. Come to think of it it was before the backup facility that IT dept told me wasn't needed except for upgrades. Therefore you don't need it for using sam but when you do a backup will write to whatever card you have in I presume . Sorry for misleading info before.
