Attended the Awnings session yesterday, introducing the new range for 2006.
First impression is that it is a better product, and should be easier to sell as we now only have one type of awning for all applications.
I'm not convinced about allocating 6 slots for each awnings appointment but will go with it for a while, though I do intend to keep notes on each occasion - time taken, outcome (sale / quote), value, and whether credit option required - so that I have some stats if I want to argue this at a later date.
However, I have one serious doubt about the product specification ! Every awning will be supplied with a 3 metre electric cable as standard. The motor is situated in the end of the awning, which has to be minimum 2.3 metres above ground. The cable has to run down the wall to plug height (say 2 metres), then through the wall (usually about 9 inches = 30 cms), so if the socket is not within 2 feet (70 cms) the cable will be too short.
We can, of course, order longer cable in the special instructions box but this could easily be overlooked at the time of sale. Also, I'm sure the fitters carry spare cable on their vans - but they can't just add a bit, they have to remove the motor housing and rewire it, not too difficult but unnecessary hassle.
Why can't the standard cable specification be, say, five metres long - probably adds about 40 pence to the cost of an awning, but saves the fitters a lot of aggravation.
I just don't understand the logic - anybody else got thoughts on this ?
