Ultralite 500 conservatory roofs - see Hillarys News 25/11. This type of roof has been around a while and has a number of brand names. It seems that they are all blue, thicker than normal polycarbonate, have no roof bars and are limited to leantoo conservatories. I have only fitted to one in 10 years. That was this year and within a few months the roof started going brown and opaque. This was with a reflective fabric (Capri), but I think a non reflective fabric would have the same effect but take longer. The quote to replace the roof includes the comment "The manufacturer recommends that you do not have blinds under this type of roof". I would suggest that this suggestion is followed unless a clear statement is received from the customer or installer that blinds will not be a problem. Note also that Hillarys insurers are resisting my customer's claim for a new roof.

Many thanks for this very useful input - your description of what these roofs look like is a whole bunch more helpful than the short statement received in the weekly mailer. How do Hillarys expect us to avoid these roofs if they don't give us a few clues about how to identify them ?

I've actually seen one of these roofs, affected by roof blinds. (not mine thankfully). When you look up, the long dark lines you can see are steel bars. This roof melted in parts, the bars started dropping through, and the whole roof started to bow. It was well impressive!
Customer was bouncing between conservatory company, roof supplier and blind company for compensation but ended up paying it herself.
