Here are two Case studies of neighbouring full time Advisor's.
Whilst not indicative of all businesses run by Hillarys Advisor's it does give some insight.
1.
Full-time with 1 - 3 fitters.
This Advisor works from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm Mon - Fri with occasional late evenings up to 10.30pm before he gets home.
His spouse works part-time as an Advisor to help cover the busy periods.
Many weekends are taken up with sales calls, some fitting & occasional problem fixing of fitters installations.
He works the largest area possible to gain as many leads as he can to give himself an income & to keep his fitter/s busy.
The constant worry is that enough business coming in will cover his overheads & keep the fitter busy & earning money for himself.
The area is so large that he resorts to restricting days to cover a certain area. Some customers are therefore given to other Advisors in the area.
Mileage is quite high as is his petrol costs.
The majority of customers are happy with the service.
Sometimes he has to deal with upset customers because the fitter is NOT sales trained & occasionally they say the wrong thing which could have been avoided.
His wife is unhappy that he is never at home.
When on holiday he always takes his phone to cover any problems whilst away.
He can't switch off & relax!
Some customers are lost because whilst happy with the service they do prefer the 'one - to - one' service they received by the previous Advisor.
2.
Full-time Advisor operating as Sales/Fitter.
He is available Mon - Fri with occasional Saturday mornings.
He has restricted himself to a post-code area that gives the most economical coverage & allows himself to cover all areas every day.
He is often out the door at around 10 - 10.30am due to the shorter distance he covers.
He can go home for a break should he wish.
He books his diary to allow for busy selling days & best fitting days.
His family life is relaxed & the kids don't ask mummy "Who's that man?"!!!!
When on holiday he leaves the phone at home.
He deals with problems on-site where possible or promptly on other occasions.
He has a good number of referrals & repeat business due to the fact that whilst the customer is on a 'high' on the 'fitting day' he places emphasis on the benefits of ringing him direct for more blinds.
Advisor No. 2. does less annual business than Advisor No. 1.
No. 1 has higher overheads & stress.
No. 2 manages his time, customers & area efficiently
but has less overheads.
After deducting overheads BOTH Advisors earn the same money.
Do you think this is a reasonable & fair description?
