For this very reason ( Never getting paid, and then LATE, and always wrong) I have thrown away my Interest Free Credit stuff. If the Client cannot afford it or cannot do it on a card, then they cannot afford it--period.
Pursuing Interest free stuff is another step down the "Ghetto-blinds" route that Sillarys started under the latest initiative.
Give it a miss--

Agree with you....nonails. Do you remember the good old days of post dated cheques? I know it was stopped because it was illegal, but it helped to get sales AND we got the commission before all the cheques had cleared. AAhhhhh....... the good old days.

I'd disagree on this one. I've found it very useful in conservatories, esp. roof blinds as a way of either selling up or closing the order.
I'll only use it large orders values though. The limit was dropped to £300 & I agree at this level if they can't afford it, they can't afford it. I only offer when over £800.
Don't know if others are finding the same, but I'm taking more orders without a deposit than ever. The sort of customer we now see hasn't got a cheque book or credit/debit card. How many times have you heard "I need to go the cash machine, can you wait 15 mins or come back tomorrow"? Can I bu66ery!!!! I'll take order with no deposit, Hillarys can take the risk. Other advantage in this. I took a conservatory order during the 4/£99 promo, used paper order and no deposit. Threw order in bin & phoned customer 2 days latter saying sold out.

Actually, Interest free is a good closing tool when presented correctly. My gripe with it is that the Treasury Dept at Hillarys lose about 1 in 10 of the Finance Agreements which leaves me running around duplicating much of my work. What JoYnMik says is true ... we could do with post dated cheques being re-introduced. Problem is if you do post-date then you wait 'til all cheques have cleared before commission payment.

When we used post dated cheques before, we would get our commission as if the full balance was paid. We did not have to wait for all the cheques to clear
