Isn't a "sky hook" actually "hook-all" In other words using absolutely nothing .
Such as fitting a long vert rail with 3 x 127mm face brackets instead of 5 or 6 when Hillarys don't send any in the delivery box and u only have 3 in the tool-box and your van is 4 streets away in the pi***ng rain!!

Definition of a 'Sky Hook' .... to fit into 'thin air' because some 'di*k wad' didn't pack the brackets you require for the job.
Definition of 'Long Stand' .... to stand holding up blind for customer indefinitely because the same 'di*k wad' still hasn't packed the brackets.

All of the above plus theres the loose headrail ends hanging off (the Im too tired to push them washers on properly) And then theres the which mechanism do you want stiff or stiffer, I mean Forrest gump was dead right - Hillarys is like a box of chocolates, etc
Mind you who does the picking and packing and quality checking? And what are they paid? For example i ordered a pink vertical recently and it took 3 Dors for someone to recognise how bad the paint job was. But if I get the minimum wage what do I care?
Perhaps the advisors and the factory staff need to join forces! Do you ever think how militant we sound?

Just been out to fit 8 verticals on brown rails ( which I rarely order) with this damned brown cord weight.
Why do they use a 3 part shoddy weight that has to be hammered into the holder ? Then we have to prat around with a badly fitting top cord holder that slips out of the retaining holes if removed even once.
It is a tatty load of Chinese dross.
What was wrong with the brown plastic cordweight?? I still have half a dozen in my store??
I must have wasted 20 minutes getting these d**n things fitted.....
It plain to see that those who order and schedule these parts have never ever been out on a job at the sharp end.

Like you Bear, I try to avoid Brown rails. The weights are one of the visible differences the customer notices, if you have other coloured rails on the same order. I have sometimes seen the metal ingot, in 2 peices, making it a four part weight. Other problems are the tilt cord, is white with brown balls, and the draw cord is so stiff and twists all over the place.

Agreed The draw cord twists like hell and the pull needed ona 3.6metre rail is mighty. This needs highlighting on our poduct shortcomings lists I NEVER ORDER BROWN RAILS as they come with white hangers and look a pig. I also never order WOOD VENETIANS (Until I see good postings here) WOODWEAVE Because its is tatty and who wants a pull cord hanging down in the middle of the window Cheap crappy product 3 FOR £99 because I lose money on it, and when I did sell it they missed Xmas delivery and dropped the order by 100 quid ensuring I made a bigger loss AWNINGS Because they are a waste of time and I still havent been paid on one sold 3 years ago on CREDIT. Hillarys have changed the FSM twic and the Credit Company once since then so no chance. Everyone wanted to help but noone could or did Consequence The client got the blind The Awning Company and its fitter got paid. Hillarys got their cut and the Agent who sold it got sod all..... And you want loyalty......AAAAAAGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I actually prefer the brown cord weight system.
I think the other looks cheap.
But I agree it is harder to fit, but not that hard bear!! If it takes you 20 mins to put 8 cord weights on, were you doing it one handed.

Having only just joined this forum I'm still trolling my way round these pages. Had a classic h/r dor the week before xmas. Rail was 3.6 mts long. It had the correct amount of carriers and links, 22 of the 32 were correct with 5" links, but the others were 3.1/2". Its as if tea break arrived and the person making it buggered off then came back and finished off fitting the wrong components

Just had 2 tilt cords snap. Never had this in 16 years, but I see a few others have recently.
Anyone know the cause? Not a wood venetian style "cost saving" I hope

GVM I think you'll find that this is a cost cutting idea that has gone wrong. I am told that this is likely to be another Chinese import. The Tilt cords are so fragile you need only pull on them lightly to have them snap. I've had about 12 of them break since December. It must be a know problem because I've noticed that many H/rails are arriving 'out of alignment' due to the factory not touching them either.
