I am sure its not just me, but why do we have to put up with fitting the ever increasing quantity of poo quality stabiliser chains?
You can tell the ones as soon as you open the packet - slightly smaller in width, and on average about 1 in 3 are misshapen, meaning you have to prise them apart to fit them to the weights.
On the odd occasion, not a problem really, but when you have to assemble a batch of louvres, it can double the time taken, not to mention sore fingers.
Do customers buying Hillarys Web Blinds have to go through the same hassle of 'self assembly' of louvres with these horrible chains?
I don't think so.
Anyway, QC department, if you read this forum, please can you sort it out. They are clearly not to spec, so return them to the manufacturer and get some of the proper ones please.

Why would you take them off? .... why not cut them off? It's the number of chains supplied that are too short that are the problem...... 'Too long' I can handle!!!! OR!!!! ... is this a bit of your sarcastic humour shining through???

Agree totally regarding the crappy chains and the sore thumbs - hope somebody is monitoring this thread and does something about it. This will no doubt be the contribution of some smart new graduate with a fancy degree joining the Purchasing Dept and trying to show how clever he is by saving a few quid a year - trouble is that he's replaced a good product with complete rubbish.
I've also noticed that sometimes there are one or two links too many on the chains and it is a total pain because you have to go back to check that no weights have been missed out. My solution to this is that I subconciously count the number of louvres when I put the hangers in, then again when I hang them, and again when I attach the chain - if the count is the same then you know you have too many links rather than a fitting error. Unfortunately this comes naturally to me as I'm one of those sad people that subconciously counts everything - when I get to the top of a flight of stairs I can always tell you how many steps, without even realising I've done it. There must be some psychiatric term for this particular obsession ?

There is a medical term for it which escapes me at present. I'd wager that you have a favourite number sequence too!! Do you like 'odds' or 'even' numbers? How many times do you go back to the cooker or light switch to check you switched it off??? Sometimes a sign of stress!!!!! Working for Hillarys at this time would give you cause!

There must be some psychiatric term for this particular obsession ? You are suffering from................OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) Yeah....Tell me about it !. Oh another little gem from earlier today ...... A roll of louvres had their bottom weights placed upside down !!!! Is this a new scheme to go with the new Vertical Fabrics !!1

The thing that really winds me up is when they mark the chains with the number of links instead of the blind number. I know it's a small thing, and my rage is irrational but ..........
I DON'T BL**DY CARE HOW MANY LINKS THERE ARE, I JUST WANT THE NUMBER TO MATCH THAT ON THE HEADRAIL AND BAG OF LOUVRES.
Gosh, I feel better for that, I think I'll go and lie in a dark room for a while

Interesting about the Sore Thumbs, had a rare big job the other day.
My wife came to help, had not previously, and she was complaining about Sore thumbs and how difficuly they were to put on.
I thought it was her lack of practice.
But maybee not

I totally agree about the "extra" links of chain. I wondered if some clown in the factory thinks they are doing us a favour by giving us extra. The point is that, on a multiple blind order, I often wonder if I have picked up the chains for another blind and have to go around counting wights in order to check before cutting off the exces. Potentially, this is causing Hillarys a 5 - 10% rise in annual cost of chains. As far as fitting the chains is concerned, I have found that sliding the link over the "web" of the weight (the little flat top section) I can then rotate it and slide it down the upright "post". Failing that, Neutragena hand cream works wonders on chapped thumbs !!!!
